A great way to get involved in the community is to serve on the board of directors for a nonprofit organization. Ultimately, you will use your skills and expertise in your field to assist the organization in fulfilling its mission. This program is specifically designed to educate new board members about the key characteristics of highly effective boards, board structure and management, and the board-staff partnership, among other important elements.

Mr. Walker has worked in the nonprofit field for nearly 30 years as a volunteer, board member, fund raiser and executive director. A BoardSource-trained consultant, he was formerly international director of The Nature Conservancy’s Trustee Leadership Program, supporting 1400 Trustees on 56 boards around the world and is past president of the New College Foundation in Sarasota. A member of phi beta kappa, he holds degrees in communications and technology transfer, English literature and physics and lives in Sarasota.
